Zillah Ruth Poe Purdy, 88, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at NHC Healthcare of Madisonville.

She was born on January 17, 1924 in Dawson Springs, KY to the late David Moody Poe and Ollie Ellen Calvert Poe.
She retired as a school teacher where she taught for over thirty years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Second Baptist Church in Madisonville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Purdy, and her two brothers, Edward Dempsey Poe and Sidney Russell Poe.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (R.O.) Cabbage of Madisonville; her step-daughter, Ann (Jack) Collins, of Madisonville; her step-son, Gary Purdy of Madisonville; her two sisters, Dola Rose Monroe of Dawson Springs and Gleora Ellen Inglis of Dalton, KY; her brother, Ruby Woodburn Poe of St. Charles, KY; her granddaughter, Michelle Jessup Lineberry of Lexington, KY; her grandson, Jayson Scott Jessup of Earlington, KY; her step-granddaughter, Kim Cabbage Marks of Sacramento, KY; several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Rev. J.D. Holt officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Madisonville.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at Harris Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
