He was born on March 19, 1956 in Calhoun, KY to the late Floya Bates McGhee and Herbert Bates. Troyce was employed at Ahlstrom in Madisonville and was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and loved spending time with his grandsons.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Nichols.

Survivors include his son, Dustin (Heather) Bates of Ohio; brother, Wayne; sisters, Nelda and Brenda; grandsons, Ethan, Liam, Cameron and Gabe; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at New Hope Cemetery, Highway 431 in Central City, KY with Pastor Eddie Fleming officiating. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville is in charge of the arrangements.
