Obituary

Robert (Bob) Glen Woodward passed quietly at home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Edna Woodward, and his only son, Robert Woodward Jr.  He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Elizabeth, stepsons Dan and Brad Jones, mother-in-law Joyce Nichols, sister in-law Tami Lewis and John Honnold, his Jack Russell Terrier sidekick Buddy, and grandchildren.  Besides his wife, Bob had a passion for many things in life.

He started working at Sears at age 14. His favorite tasks early on at Sears were stoking coal furnaces and cleaning restrooms. After years of experiences and promotions, he concluded his career with Sears in national management, working at the Sears Tower in Chicago. After some time with Sears, he realized this would not satisfy his ambitions. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and went on with different ventures, including being a home builder, apartment complex developer, board member of a solar power company, shirt factory owner, farmer - if it was a challenge and could further his dreams, Bob took the risk.

Since he was well respected and successful in his initial development ventures, he went on to develop commercial properties with build-to-suit and lease-to-own contracts, and founded Woodward Commercial Realty in Evansville, IN, and got a thrill out of the art of the deal.

He was happiest in life when navigating through the perfect storm on the ocean on his boat or being in the pilot's seat in the air.  After each invigorating adventure he would go through, Bob loved a great steak, a dirty martini, and a fine cigar.  Bob embodied the saying of "a life well lived", and thankfully his successes in life enabled him to support those habits.  His life and drive enabled him to accomplish his dreams far beyond expectations.

He was always generous and fair, always had a smile on his face or funny story at the ready, and has the love of Christ in his heart.  While Bob will be deeply missed, his impact on countless people cannot be overstated.  Anonymous giving was something he enjoyed doing, wanting the ones who needed help to be helped, with a particular admiration for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, but not seeking or wanting any accolades for his charity.

There is so much to say about his life, this short story really does not do him justice.  That said, Bob was truly a remarkable man, and words cannot in any way express what he means to all of us.

After an intimate service, for his final celebration, a toast was given in Bob's honor with a dirty martini. Toastmasters include Dan, Ashley, Ethan, and Allie Jones, Brad and Hailey Jones, Chris Summers, Deon Perkins, Tami Lewis and John Honnold.
