Penni Jo Lay Matheny, 58, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.

She was born on August 12, 1965, in Princeton, KY, to the late Jerri Holman Lay and John Scott Lay. She was a graduate of Dawson Springs High School. Penni worked at Commonwealth Broadcasting in Madisonville and previously worked at Rex Parker Insurance in Dawson Springs and at Bremner Food Group in Princeton, KY.  She enjoyed eating at restaurants and liked to shop. She enjoyed helping others and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrin Matheny of Dawson Springs; brother In-Law, Dave Litchfield of Madisonville; and her nephew, Kenny Litchfield of Kissimmee, FL.

Survivors include her son, Dakota Shane Matheny of Madisonville; daughter, Alyssa Radene Matheny and her fiancé, Zach Miller; stepson, Brandon Matheny of White Plains, KY; stepdaughter, Leann Matheny of Louisville, KY; bonus son and daughters, Brad and Abby Williams of Madisonville, Shayna and Haley Meyer of Fort Stewart, GA; sister, Tami Litchfield of Madisonville; nephew, Shawn and Ashley Litchfield of Madisonville; nieces, Brandi VanderMolen of Portage, MI and Tammy Peyton of Madisonville; grandchildren, Kinley Jo Matheny, Aiden Elijah Williams, Jackson Frost Williams, Dawson Taylor Williams, and Kayson Gale Jackson; and her fur baby, GG.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at McGregor Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY with Brad Williams officiating. Harris Funeral Home was entrusted with care.

Pallbearers are Brad Williams, Zach Miller, Dakota Matheny, Brandon Matheny, Shawn Litchfield, and Jaylin Mitchell.  Honorary pallbearer is Richard Watkins.
