Marvin Phillips, 81, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at his home.

He was born on July 26, 1942, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Mayme Tyson Fowler and Willie Phillips. Marvin was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Over the years, he was a coal miner, a retired captain for the Hopkins County Jail, truck driver for Chappell Trucking, and a journeyman iron worker for Local #103. Marvin was the pastor for Bethany Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Willie May Nance, Mary Osborne, and Wanda Dunn; and his stepbrother, Edward Fowler.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Peggy Sue Pendley Phillips of Madisonville; daughters, Susan (Cecil) Sarver of Nortonville, KY, Kimberly (Leroy) Cates of Madisonville, Dana (Matthew) Sorrentino of Ranger, GA, and Jill (Phillip) Stephens of Madisonville; son, Wesley Phillips of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Elgon Harvey officiating. Burial to follow at Hanson Cemetery in Hanson, KY.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Wesley Phillips, Cody Stephens, James Stephens, Joseph Sorrentino, Austin Stephens, and Christopher Stephens.
