Nora "Judy"
Lovan
Oct 9, 1927 — Oct 21, 2021
Madisonville
Nora Geraldine Lovan passed away peacefully in her home on October 21, 2021, at the age of 94. Nora, lovingly known as Judy, was surrounded by family and close friends as she spent her last moments on earth. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Classo Lovan, her brother Dorris Lovan, and her sister Donna Lovan Stum. Judy is survived by her nieces, nephews, six very well cared for cats, and an incredible number of loving friends and family.
Judy lived an amazing life. Born into meager beginnings in 1927, growing up in depression era Hopkins County, her family lived most of her early childhood in a share cropper dirt floor cabin. Yet, Judy graduated with honors from Madisonville High School in 1945. That same year she moved to Nashville to attend Andrew Jackson Vocational College where she received a degree in Administration. She moved back to Madisonville and worked in various roles within the Hopkins County courts system. In the late 1950's Judy moved to Lexington, Ky to further her career at the University of Kentucky. She graduated from UK in 1965 from the College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in the Humanities. Judy dedicated her life to Information Technology, being the very first computer programmer employed at the University of Kentucky. Her career at University of Kentucky IT Department lasted more than thirty-seven years as she worked well into her late 70's. She was a published author, she travelled the world, and furthered her education in any way she was able to. She was a true intellectual. She had an incredible sense of humor even as she faced the end. She will be missed dearly.
Judy made donations to over 80 charitable causes with many of those donations being annualized. Her true passion was to support charities benefiting the environment and animals, especially the World Wildlife Fund. Each of the 6 cats she had at the time of her death were strays she adopted from the parks surrounding her home. It is in this spirit the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Humane Society of Kentucky in Judy's name.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Dr. Jake Stum officiating. A burial will follow at Star Hope Cemetery in Webster County, Hwy 120 East.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Saturday at the funeral home.
The pallbearers will be Jeff Stum, Jake Stum, Zane Stum, Dosen Stum, Wyatt Stum, and Oliver Hernandez.
