Obituary

Michael Allan Slaton, 70, passed away with his daughter by his side on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville, KY.

He was born on March 13, 1952, in Mishawaka, IN to the late William Slaton and Dorothy Harris Slaton. He coached football for many years at the local middle and high schools. His favorite former player even became his son-in-law. When he wasn't coaching, he could be found driving a school bus back and forth to the games. Anything he could do to stay involved in local sports made him so happy. Michael also loved to sing. It brought him great joy to entertain crowds and be part of many bands and groups throughout his younger years. He was certainly talented, and his stage presence was unmatched. He definitely missed his calling as an entertainer. Michael was a people person and never met a stranger. He was so witty, and kind. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Michael loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. The titles of "Daddy" and "Pop" were definitely his favorite. He loved sports and coached his daughter's softball teams for many years. They always enjoyed this special time together as he was her biggest fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Latona Slaton, and his sisters, Shirlyn Stewart, and Patti Slaton.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Slaton, children, Brooklyn (Travis) Willett of Tuscaloosa, AL and Jordan Slaton of White Plains, KY; grandchildren, Levi, Tyler, Dylan, and Lucas Willett of Tuscaloosa; brothers, Tim (Robin) Slaton, James (Jane) Slaton both of White Plains and Richard (Patty) Slaton of Russellville, KY; sister, Susan Cotton of White Plains; the mother of his children, Lynne Slaton of White Plains, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Chris Barnes officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the service hour Thursday at the funeral home.
