Mattie Louise Smith Spence Corder, 99, of Madisonville and One Park Place, Owensboro, died July 29, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

She was born on May 13, 1915, in Cromwell, KY to the late Marie Stephens Smith and Dr. Henry N. Smith of Rochester, KY.
Mrs. Corder received her nurses training at Owensboro Daviess Co. Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madisonville. The photo of Mattie was taken on her 99 birthday which she celebrated with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. James Carroll Spence in 1966; her second husband, John Corder in 2004; her son, Richard C. Spence in 2004; and her son, James R. Spence in May, 2014; her brothers, Lewis Smith, Carter Smith, Worth Smith, Lynn "Doc" Smith, Glenn "Jake" Smith, and Dr. Henry C. Smith; her sisters June Carlyle and Marie "Boots" Brown.

Survivors include her grandchildren: Julie Spence Miller (Tom), John Richard Spence (Denise), John Roland Spence, Paul A. Spence, Sean Spence (Leigh) and Marisa Spence Sample (Shane); and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on McLeod Lane in Madisonville. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville is in charge of arrangements. Burial to follow.
