Mary Rhew Parish, 85, of Manitou, died Thursday, April 21st at NHC Heathcare of Madisonville. She lived her final days on earth in the same way she had lived every day of her life, surrounded by friends and family. Other than Jesus, there was nothing that Mary loved more than her family. She was born September 15, 1930 to John & Ruth Rhew, who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Katherine Oakley and Agnes Shoulders, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Poe.
Mary is survived by her husband and best friend of 66 years, James W. Parish of Manitou, two sons whom she adored, Gary (Janice) Parish of Madisonville, and Roger (AnnaBeth) Parish of Nebo, and her brother John Rhew, Jr. of Madisonville. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Becky (Hondo) Clayton of Madisonville, Steve (Pam) Parish of Atlanta, Georgia, Jonathan (Leslee) Parish of Nebo, and Jessica Parish of Madisonville. Mary was also a proud great-grandmother of fourteen, and great-great grandmother of seven.
Mary was a member of the General Baptist faith and has spent her life following Jesus as her Savior. As a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was always faithful to Jesus' words from John 13:34, to love others as He had loved her. Whether taking food to a family who needed it, or spending hours alongside her son at Common Garments Ministry folding donated clothing, or visiting those who were sick alongside her husband, Mary loved others fully. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday April 23, 2016 at 2 PM in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. J.T. Parish and Bro. Carrol Parish officiating. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery in Manitou.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral hour Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Steve Parish, Jonathan Parish, Billy Poe, Aaron Poe, Seth Gullett and Patrick Gullett.
Flowers will be accepted at Harris Funeral Home or memorial donations can be made to Common Garments Ministry Inc, at PO Box 27 Nebo, KY 42441.
Mary's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of NHC Healthcare for their loving care of Mary, and the family.
