Mary Cunningham James Cardwell, 87, of Manitou, KY passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Ridgewood Terrace Health and Rehab in Madisonville.

She was born on July 20, 1931 in Madisonville to the late Allie and Lanerlene Cunningham. Mary was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Madisonville. She loved working in the yard tending her flowers and cleaning. Mary loved to cook and offered a meal or a Dr. Pepper to family and friends or anyone that stopped by for a visit. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin "Bill" James in 1974; her second husband, David Cardwell in 2018; her brothers, Otis Cunningham and Odie Thomas Cunningham; her sister whom just passed away on May 6, 2019, Marie Johnston; and her step-father, Ovy Ashby;

Survivors include her sons, Steven (Nellie) James and Bill (Kathy) James both of Madisonville; sister, Judy Uzzle of Madisonville; grandchildren, Chad James, Julie James, Ginger James, Heather Harris and Chris Josleyn; great-grandchildren, Sean James, Brandon Nance and Bradley (Bailey) Nance; great-great-grandchildren, Emeri Nance and Abri James; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Pastor Jeff Winfrey officiating. Burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. The pallbearers will be Mary's family members.

The visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Terrace Health and Rehab and Dr. Mark Tackett for their kindness, love and compassion shown to Mary during her stay.
