Obituary

Lynda "Lynn" Gayle Coates Lacefield, 85, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.

She was born on August 14, 1939, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Eileene Whitson Coates and William Lawson Coates. She graduated from Madisonville High School and attended Madisonville Community College where she graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts. After college, Lynn and some of her friends moved to Florida where she resided for one year. While in Florida, she attended First Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized. She then moved to Chicago, IL, and worked for Leo Burnett Advertising, the largest advertising agency in the city as a receptionist and assisted and modeled for clients. A coworker, Stan Sherwin, who created and designed "Charlie The Tuna" for Starkist also worked there and he painted a portrait of Lynn. She later worked for Russ Stamm Productions in Chicago in sales and casting. Lynn then moved to Los Angeles, CA, and worked for 20th Century Fox Studios. Eventually she returned to Madisonville and worked at the Ramada Inn as a waitress and cashier. Her hobbies included travel, reading, and trivia contests. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people. She truly loved Madisonville. Later in life, she met Bill Lacefield, and they were married on July 26, 2000, and were happily married until his death. Even though they met later in life, he was the love of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lacefield; sister, Jean Cavanah, and brothers, Bill Coates and Ed Coates.

Her survivors include her nieces and nephews, Deborah Cavanah Allen, Susan Coates Keeran, Gregory Coates, Charles Coates, Adrian Coates, and Darron Coates. Lynn always enjoyed being mom to her loving pets, Lola and Rocky, as well as previous pets, Dolly Parton, John Wayne, Susie, and Leroy.

A favorite quote of hers is from a poem by Emily Dickinson, "And so my fellow country men think tenderly of me."
