Kenneth Lee
Smith
Jan 20, 1961 — Feb 24, 2022
Madisonville
Kenneth Lee Smith, 61, of Hanson, KY, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.
Kenneth was born on January 20, 1961, in Meade County, SD, to the late Harold Edwin Smith and Evelyn Elaine Jarrell Smith.
Kenneth was a proud veteran of the United States Army, which he severed honorably and was a captured POW (Prisoner of War in 1982). To read his story of the Capture and Torture he endured is so tearful and makes anyone that is an American proud of his dedication of military service so that we may be free to live in this Country of the USA! Kenneth had a love for his 1994 red Corvette and his Harley motorcycle. He loved to watch Kentucky basketball and NASCAR racing. He had newfound friends that were his family, at his best friend's shop, Ronnie Vaughn, where he fed the pony, miniature horse, and miniature rescued donkey daily. When they would see him with the carrots and apples, they ran to the gate and Gus the Donkey would blow off his horns at him.
Kenneth was at peace with God and was ready for his next journey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Survivors include a daughter, son, sister, and brother. His family included Ronnie and Margaret (Davis) Vaughn of Hanson, KY and William (Buddy) and Jennifer (Littlepage) Farmer of Madisonville. Kenneth had a best friend and companion fur baby for many years named "Joggernut" and friend, Luther Knight of Hanson.
There will be no service. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Burial will be held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, KY, with full military honors. Kenneth's wish was to be placed to rest at this beautiful, honored, and sacred spot for all deserving veterans of all the branches of service as well as POW's.
The family wants to thank, Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville, KY and Post Commander Thomas Omer, Post 6 of the American Legion in Madisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kenneth's memory to American Legion, Post 6, 856 Legion Drive, Madisonville, KY 42431.
