John Baptist Knight, 87, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at his home.

He was born on January 30, 1935, in Crofton, KY, to the late Odie Pearl Henderson Knight and David Ellison Knight. He was formerly employed as a welder for Cimarron Coal Mines. He loved building things and mowing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. John was a member and deacon at Grapevine Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Thomas Knight and Lovelace David Knight; sisters, Mary Jane Almon and Martha Louise Furgerson; grandson, Lane Michael Hancock; and son-in-law, Mike Hancock.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years, Sue Cunningham Knight; son, Bruce (Bonnie) Knight of Hanson, KY; daughter, Diane (Jerry) Hancock-Caudill of Hanson; grandsons, David (Diana) Knight of Goshen, IN; Stuart (Isabel) Hancock and Phillip (Kim) Knight, both of Madisonville, and Joshua (Lauren) Knight of Hanson; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Cox officiating and Dr. Mark Parton assisting. Burial to follow at Olive Branch Cemetery in Hanson, KY.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Stuart Hancock, Phillip Knight, Joshua Knight, Bradley Egbert, Gary Cunningham, and Greg Burbage.
