John Paul Gatlin, 84, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 12:39 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Baptist Health Madisonville.

He was born on February 6, 1929 in Madisonville, KY to the late Mamie Jones Gatlin and Garland Edgar Gatlin. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was a news director with WTTL and was formerly with WFMW. He was a member and deacon of Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Gatlin; his brothers, Walter Gatlin, David Gatlin and Bud Gatlin.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Dortha Gatlin of Madisonville; his sons, Darrel (Pam) Gatlin, Gary (Kim) Gatlin both of Madisonville and Brian (Christina) Gatlin of Scottsville, KY; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Kerry Smith and Bro. Sam Beeny assisting. Burial to be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour Friday at Harris Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in John Paul's memory to Gideons International and Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
