Joenell Wilson Friend, 92, of Stuart, FL (formerly of Slaughters, KY) traveled to her heavenly home on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Solaris Healthcare in Stuart Florida.

She was born on November 23, 1930, in Slaughters, Kentucky to the Reverend Johnnie (Buster) and Ruth Wilson. Joenell retired from Pratt Whitney in 1991 and was happy to make memories traveling with her friends and family to Israel, Nova Scotia, and across America. She was a member of the Baptist denomination, a member of Unity Chapter #37 OES for 46 years and the Social Order of the Beauceant, Ocala No. 249. An incredibly talented seamstress, she made clothing and costumes for herself and her family.  She was known to her grands as Mama Jo.  She was a good and faithful friend to many, and much to the chagrin of some of her family, she never met a stranger.  Joenell loved the Lord and served him always.  When she prayed, her son said it was like she was talking to a friend, and she was.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, and her sister, Wilma Jean Franklin.

Joenell is survived by her son, Paul (Judy) Wilson Friend of Stuart, FL; brother, Ralph A. (Barbara) Wilson of Okeechobee, FL; granddaughters, Heather (Jason) Meyer of Stuart, FL, Amanda (Daniel) Villanueva of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Rachel (Adam) Tuthill of Fort Pierce FL; grandsons, Landon and Ross Friend of Stuart, FL and Kelly (Crystal) Wright Kelly of San Antonio, TX; and great grandchildren, Chevy, Kaylee, Alyssa, Jada, Jaxon, Ava, Jason, Levi, Leah, Gavin, Oliver, Ellison, and Hattie.

The family would like to thank Solaris Healthcare and Treasure Coast Hospice for their loving care. A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Salerno Southern Methodist Church at 4899 SE Ebbtide Avenue, Stuart, FL with family and friends being received at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Slaughters Cemetery in Slaughters, KY with Bro. Paul Friend officiating. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
