Jessie Ruth McDowell, 91, of Madisonville, KY passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

She was born on August 23, 1926 in Madisonville to the late, Ted and Pearl Wright. After graduating high school she married James Curtis "J.C." McDowell, Sr. together they had a son, James Curtis "Jay" McDowell, Jr. and they owned a hardware store. Jessie Ruth owned and ran a bicycle shop before retiring. She really enjoyed decorating her home and riding her bicycle. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her friends, especially Friday lunches at Country Cupboard. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. in 1996, and her son, Jay on January 8, 2018.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Ellen McDowell of Lee's Summit, MO; granddaughter, Leeann Murphy of Pleasant Hill, MO; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Riley, and Colton.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville with Ann Oldham giving her eulogy. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville is in charge of the arrangements.
