Obituary

James Tandy Allen of LaGrange, KY, left this life Tuesday, July 23, 2024, to spend eternity in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.

Tandy was born in Danville, KY, on April 21, 1947, to the late Roy Lee Allen and Sarah Breedlove Allen. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beth Ann Armstrong of Madisonville, KY, and Judy Bandaries of New Orleans, LA. His sister, Susan (Pat) Wise of Middletown, OH, survives him.

Tandy grew up in Madisonville and was a member of the Madisonville High School Class of 1965. He graduated in 1969 from the University of Kentucky and remained a lifelong Kentucky Wildcats fan. He then proudly and courageously served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Okinawa and Thailand. He later graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and began his career as a Hospital Pharmacist at Regional Medical Center, Madisonville, and later worked for Baptist Health Louisville and Baptist Health LaGrange. He retired from Baptist Health with over twenty years of dedicated service to patients in 2015. He was a member of First Baptist Church Madisonville, serving as Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was also an early participant in the Madisonville Walk to Emmaus. His Christian faith and love for his family were very important in his life. His greatest joy was time spent with his wife Terry, his three children, and seven grandchildren. He loved attending many recitals, plays, swimming competitions, marching band performances, concerts, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies with family. Much fun and joy were shared during beach vacations and holiday gatherings filled with laughter and hugs. His family loved him dearly and will hold him in their hearts always.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Terry Anderson Allen; his daughters, Jennifer Wallace of Georgetown, KY and Rebecca (Josh) Dean of Naperville, IL; and his son David (Robin) Allen of Nicholasville, KY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Megan Wallace, Grayson and Crawford Dean, and Cori, Nora, Ben, and Eli Allen. Other surviving relatives include his loving brother-in-law, Brian Anderson and family; along with several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McMurtrie officiating. Burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, KY, with military honors to be held graveside by the United States Air Force and the Hopkins County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday at the funeral home.
