James "Sonny" Marks, 76, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Madisonville Health & Rehab in Madisonville.

He was born on October 19, 1948, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Virginia Taylor Marks and James Powell Marks. He was formerly employed as the head custodian for Madisonville North Hopkins High School for ten years and also as a maintenance supervisor for the Madisonville Housing Authority. He enjoyed reading and was always a huge fan of  the Madisonville Marching Maroons Band. Sonny was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Kay Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Carolyn Gipson Marks; son, Michael (Kristie) Marks of Madisonville; daughter, Kimberly (Paul) Staup of Findley, OH; granddaughter, Kenzie Marks of Madisonville; grandson, Caleb Marks of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bourland officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Hanson, KY.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
