Georgia "Georgie" Marion Durham Stanley, 93, of Apopka, FL, formerly of Nebo, KY, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
"Georgie" was born in Evansville, IN, on November 21,1931, to the late Cecil and Irene Denton Durham. She was the oldest of four siblings. Georgia and her family moved to Nebo, KY when she was in 11th grade. She met Tommy Stanley when she was sixteen after Tommy had returned from serving in WWII. They were married after Georgia graduated from high school on July 2, 1949. They had three daughters, Belinda, Charlotte and Patty, who feel blessed beyond measure to have had parents that provided them with a supportive, loving Christ-centered home. Their love story lasted almost seventy-two years and was a great example of partnership, teamwork and unwavering love. Tommy and Georgia worked side by side in their many businesses, including Western Auto, Dairy Queen, and J & L Hardware, a business in Orlando, FL that they owned for twenty-seven years. Georgia was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando. She was loved by her three girls and her sons-in-law, six grandchildren and their spouses, and twelve great-grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings and being involved in her kids and grandkids' lives. After Tommy and Georgia retired, they were able enjoy some memorable trips before their health started to fail.
In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of almost seventy-two years, John "Tommy" Stanley; and her sister, Charlotte Lutz.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Belinda (Larry) Finley, Charlotte (Rick) Collins, and Patty (Alan) Hair, all of Florida; her sister, Sharon Tompkins; brother, James "Jimmy" Durham; six grandchildren and their spouses; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside ceremony for family will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 10:00 am. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
