Gene Turner, 80, of Madisonville, KY passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Hillside Center in Madisonville.

He was born on May 8, 1940 in Sturgis, KY to the late Nellie Estes Turner and Jack Turner. Gene was formerly employed at Donan Engineering Company and was the manager of Nebo Water District. He loved being a firefighter and devoted his time to the calling. He was chief of the Nebo Volunteer Fire Department and was the chief and the assistant chief of the Manitou Volunteer Fire Department. Gene was a member of Oakley Home General Baptist Church and was a member of Gideon's International. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #143.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, James Turner; brother, Robert Turner; sisters, Lillian Utley and Eunice Crabtree; and his son-in-law, William "Buck" Parker.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Reda Gunther Turner; daughter, Martha Parker of Madisonville; son, Lyndle (Gail) Turner of Hanson, KY; grandchildren, Justin Turner, Jeremy Turner, Shanna Turner, Lyndsey Marvel, Jared Turner, Aaron Turner and Harley Parker; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his daughter-in-law, Gwen Turner of Madisonville.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Bill Crabtree officiating. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery in Manitou, KY.

A visitation will be held at Noon until the funeral hour Friday at the funeral home.

The pallbearers are Justin Turner, Jeremy Turner, Jared Turner, Aaron Turner, Brian Rice and Jerry Russ. Honorary pallbearers are Chad Marvel and Caleb Coy.
