Dorris D. Cowan, 85, of Christian Co., Ky. passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Friday February 4, 2011 at Ridgewood Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madisonville, Ky.

He was born on April 10, 1925 in Hopkinsville, Ky. to the late Leonard Lewis Cowan and Willie Bell Jones Cowan. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the City of Hopkinsville Sanitation Department. He was a member of Fruit Hill Baptist Church in Fruit Hill, Ky.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Cowan and a great-nephew, Jackie Cowan.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Zentmyer Cowan and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday February 7, 2011 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Jason McCash officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Fruit Hill Cemetery near Crofton, Ky. Military rites will be conducted graveside by 101st Airborne Division Ft. Campbell, Ky. and the Hopkins County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Monday at Harris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Coffman, Ronnie Coffman, Kenny Lear, Greg Miller, Steven Lear and Michael Lear.
