Obituary

David Ray Ruiz, 25, of Madisonville, KY passed away at his home on Friday, March 5, 2021.

He was a Husband, father, brother, son, cousin, friend, gamer and candy lover. David was known as "Poppa Bear" to his family or "Rolo" from coworkers or "daddy" by Ethan. He was born on October 27, 1995 in Houston, TX.

David & his wife Alyssa met at work. They got married on November 11, 2017 in Texas and became a family. Shortly after they moved to Madisonville KY. Many people were shocked when he started a career in coal mining. He hung up his dress slacks and computer for a hard hat and safety gear. He was a hard working, dedicated employee to Pride Mines. He made long life friends there (maybe because he gave them candy).
David was a rare combination of funny personality and kind love to his friends and family. He enjoyed playing, pickleball, video games, nerf wars with Ethan, he loved Star Wars and making funny Tik Tok videos. David will always be remembered as a fun loving goofball to his friends and sweet loving man by family.
Survivors include his wife, Alyssa Laffoon Ruiz, mother and father, Ray and Mirna Martinez Ruiz; son, Ethan Coppersmith; sister and brother-in-law, Roni and Amado Escobar; grandmothers, Clara Ruiz and Eva Martinez; aunt, Eva Manriquez; nephew, Benjamin Ray Ruiz; and his cousin, Jerry Hans.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville. The family invites you to a celebration of David's life with a meal provided at the City Park Clubhouse 755 Park Ave. Madisonville, KY 42431.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home.
