Charles "Chuck" James Groat, 79, of Hanson, KY passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Baptist Health Madisonville.

He was born on October 16, 1941 in Chicago, IL to the late Marilyn Joy Palmer Bowren and Bernard Groat. Chuck was a United States Navy Veteran and was a self employed construction contractor. He was a member of Hanson United Methodist Church. Chuck enjoyed reading, gardening and going fishing.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years, Marilyn Radde Groat; daughter, Leanna Zimmerman of Redwing, MN; step-daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) O'Daniel of Hanson; sisters, Kathleen (Jim) Lucker of Coloma, MI, Diane (Joe) Lamping of Leesburg, FL and Patricia Anderson of Bangor, MI; half-brothers, Jim Groat of St. Joseph, MI and Joe Groat of Friendswood, TX; three grandchildren; one step-grandson; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Hanson United Methodist Church in Hanson, KY with Pastor Tami Coleman officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Hopkins County Honor Guard. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville is in charge of the arrangements.
