Obituary

Bruce Douglas Johnstone, Jr., 51, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his sister's home in Madisonville, KY, on October 1, 2017.

He was born on December 9, 1965 in Newburyport, MA to Bruce Douglas Johnstone, Sr. and Eva Esther (Richard) Johnstone. Although born in Massachusetts, he, his sister, father, and mother all moved to Drakesboro, KY during his fourth grade year due to his father's occupation. He was a member of Drakesboro High School's 1983 graduating class and after attending a year at Western Kentucky University, he decided to embark on a lifelong journey of adventure; rather than living life by the rule book, he lived by his own rules, taking risks and having fun along the way. His adventures resulted in him dabbling in various unique career opportunities, including the oddities of being a bartender, truck driver, car salesman, cook, among many other things, but what ended up being his greatest passion was being an artist. He managed various art galleries during this stage in his life and displayed not only the works of his friends and colleagues, but even his own. An avid traveler, Bruce gained inspiration for his art through his cross-country and international travels. He loved to express himself through the visual arts and through this love, he was able to make some of his closest friends and fondest memories.

Survivors include his daughter, Luna Johnstone of Lexington, KY; his parents, Bruce and Eva Johnstone of Madisonville; sister, Kim Lile and husband, Phillip, of Madisonville; nephews, Codi Lile of Lexington, and Tristin Lile of Madisonville; niece, Jadin Lile of Madisonville; and by other extended family members and close friends.

A memorial service and the scattering of cremains will be privately held with the immediate family at a later date. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville was entrusted with care.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions toward an education fund at Madisonville's Fifth Third Bank for his loving daughter, Luna Johnstone, who is a freshman at the University of Kentucky.

The family of Bruce would also like to express their utmost gratitude toward the Baptist Health Hospice staff for their compassionate care during this time, where they truly went above and beyond in providing outstanding support. They also wanted to give a special thanks to Angela Anderson and Cyndi Newton, RN for their extraordinary assistance and kindness.
