Bonnie Jean Barthel Carnal, 83,of Manitou, KY passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN on Friday,  April 17, 2026.

She was born on March 18, 1943, in Torrington, WY to the late Ethel Eileen Sutton Barthel and Julius Lewis Barthel. She was a homemaker and also had a career with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service in Hampton, VA retiring in 2008 after twenty-seven years. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading The Bible. She was of the Lutheran faith. Her greatest pleasure in life was being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed keeping up with her roots through telephone conversations with her sister-in-law, Patty Barthel of Torrington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Gartman and Bernice Scott and her brothers, Charles, Robert, Richard, and James Barthel.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Brent Carnal; daughter, Lori Dee (Fred) Crump of Taylors, SC; son, David Alan Carnal of Hampton; brother, Edward Barthel of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Sherri Christa (Jeremy) Simmons and Joshua Michael (Ashley) Crump both of Taylors and Ronald Brent Carnal of Chesapeake, VA; and her great-grandchildren, Evan, Kairie, Isaac, and Rowan Simmons and Lilyanna Crump.

A private graveside service will be held at Concord General Baptist Church in Manitou at a later date. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville, KY was entrusted with care.
