Obituary

Barret "Barry" Hambleton McGaw, 77, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on December 7, 1943 in Evansville, IN to the late Nathan Scott McGaw and Ann Worsham McGaw. Barry graduated from Madisonville  High School and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College where he was commander of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a United States Army Reservist and was a third generation owner and operator of Scott-McGaw Motor Company in Madisonville and Henderson, KY. He was a partner in the Kentuckiana Subways and a partner in Haley-Mills Real Estate. He served on the YMCA Board for many years and was Madisonville City Councilman. Barry had a kind and very giving heart and it showed with his work at the Great Banquet, the Great Banquet Prison Ministry for over thirty-nine years and was co-founder of the Christian Food Bank of Hopkins County. He was a member of Victory Church in Madisonville, where his service will be held.

He loved spending summer weekends at the lake with his family and friends and vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was always there to cheer on his children and grandchildren in all their activities. His Great Banquet reunion group which started thirty-nine years ago was very important to him and will continue on. He met many friends along the way in his many endeavors and never met a stranger. He will be missed by many and if you knew Barry you knew he always enjoyed a good buffet and a good hamburger steak.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Scott McGaw; and his infant twin grandsons, Grayson and Jackson McGaw.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Mollie Dinwiddie McGaw; son, Skip (Melinda) McGaw of Madisonville; daughter, Anne Barret McGaw of Madisonville; grandchildren, Connor Kenney, Olivia Devine and Marlee McGaw; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved best friend and companion, his Goldendoodle, Oscar.
