Roy A. Hamby, 72, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 3:27 a.m. on Saturday, July, 7, 2012 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was born on August 26, 1939 in Nebo, KY to the late Jack Hamby and Georgia Messamore Spainhoward. He was a Retired Aviation Structural Mechanic Chief Petty Officer serving during the Vietnam Era. He enlisted in the Navy in 1958 and retired in 1978. He was later retired after twenty-five years from General Electric as an x-ray technician. He was a member of Pritchetts Chapel in Hanson, KY.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hamby and his step-son, Gary Stokes.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Stokes Hamby; his daughter, Lista Rodriguez of Martin, TN; his son, Tony Hamby and his wife April of Greenville, SC; two step-daughters, Bonnie Stokes of Clarksville, TN and Paulette Stokes Walker of Murfreesboro, TN; two step-sons, Richard Stokes and Danny Stokes both of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Steve Terry officiating. Burial to be held at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour Monday at Harris Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
